Sweet Pongal ( Chakkara Pongal, Sakkarai Pongal)

Sweet Pongal, also known as Chakkara Pongal or Sakkarai Pongal, is a delectable South Indian delicacy that takes centre stage during the festive Pongal celebration. This traditional dish combines rice, moong dal, and jaggery, resulting in a creamy and indulgent treat. Now, it’s time to unwrap the quick pongal recipe that will make you say “yummmm”.



Ingredients

1 cup rice

1/2 cup moong dal

1 cup jaggery (grated)

1/4 cup cashews

1/4 cup raisins

4-5 cardamom pods (crushed)

4 cups water

A pinch of salt



Instructions

  1. In a pressure cooker, add the washed rice and moong dal..

  2. In a separate pan, melt jaggery with a little water to get a syrup consistency.

  3. Add the prepared syrup to the cooked rice and dal mixture. Mix well and let it simmer on low heat.

  4. In another small pan, heat Milky Mist Ghee. Fry the cashews and raisins until golden brown, then add them to the Pongal mixture.

  5. Add crushed cardamom pods and a pinch of salt to enhance the flavour.

  6. Stir the mixture well, letting it simmer until everything is well combined and reaches a creamy consistency.

Vermicelli Payasam
